While DaDesktop primarily operates on virtual desktops, specific tasks require the power of dedicated hardware. With bare metal access, every participant is provisioned with a dedicated physical desktop or server, all overseen through the DaDesktop platform.

Rather than sharing a virtual environment, each participant utilizes a dedicated physical machine.
Remote management of physical spaces
Link existing classroom environments to DaDesktop to oversee the hardware remotely, eliminating the need for on-site presence.
Scenarios requiring bare metal
- Applications that are incompatible with virtualization, including ONAP and OpenStack.
- Hardware components that cannot be virtualized, such as specific GPUs, Mellanox cards, and other network equipment.
- Training sessions where interacting with firmware or physical hardware is central to the curriculum.
- Physical classroom configurations that require remote administration capabilities.
Operational overview
Every physical machine establishes a connection to a DaDesktop node via a control cable known as ddnexus. To provision a standalone or fresh-start desktop, choose the "Metal PC" option; the system will then deploy the environment directly to the physical device.
PC Farm
Existing office desktops can be integrated to function as bare metal nodes. In this context, each physical desktop is referred to as a potato. The central server governing these nodes is called a pumpkin (the DaDesktop node, or ddnode). The USB cable linking each potato to the pumpkin is termed a potato stalk.
